How does one define Paradise?
I mean, it's totally subjective, isn't it? One person's heaven could be another person's hell; achieving a state of bliss listening to...say, opera whilst delicately nibbling upon gooey fish eggs is a pretty impossible concept for someone like me. I have my own definition of Paradise, but it is not a clear-cut, succinct one. There are so many shades and nuances involved that proper conciseness is only attainable if I force myself to boil every lovely facet down to just two mere words:
Las Vegas. Oh, yeah.
As I said to Deena when, arriving home, I staggered out of her vehicle to receive one last hug: "We've got Vegas' ball-hair in our pockets!" which is not just a deliciously absurd metaphor, but a state of mind as well--as in, we're going to shave your balls and take your name, leaving you stunned and blinking, slightly ashamed, somewhat confused but also soft and baby-smooth. You won't know what hit you until we're gone, and after we go, you won't remember who you are. Take THAT, Las Vegas, Nevada! Bwa-ha-ha-haaa...!
Of course, Lance, Deena and I have been looking forward to this trip for...oh let's see...well, let's just say since we arrived home after the last one. But the force of the anticipation that built over the last month or so was really quite out of hand--the numerous e-mail exchanges, phone calls and giddiness; we (I) even had the temerity to dub ourselves along the lines of patron saints: Saint Lance of the Black Chip, Saint Suzie of the Verdant Green Felt, and Saint Venus of the Scrotum Shaven. Totally asinine. Wholeheartedly embraced. (By me, anyway.)
**THE BULK OF THIS LONG-WINDED POST WAS DELETED IN ERROR, BY ME. I HAD NEITHER THE PATIENCE, ENERGY, OR RECALL TO DUPLICATE IT. HOWEVER, DUE TO GENTLE BUT RELENTLESS PRESSURE, I HAVE FINALLY PUT UP SOME PHOTOS. THOSE WHO WERE THERE WILL REMEMBER, THOSE WHO WEREN'T WILL JUST HAVE TO REALIZE THAT THE PHOTOS ONLY SCRATCH THE SURFACE OF OUR EXPERIENCES, AND WALLOW IN THE STYS OF THEIR OWN ENVY. (haha--jk).
Remember: the real story is what is not there. And there's a lot not there.
